Apitropin 0.5% and 1%
Composition: Each ml of Apitropin contains:
- Atropine sulphate: BP Apitropin 0.5% 5mg. Apitropin 1% 10mg
- Preservative: Benzalkonium chloride BP 0.1mg
Apitropin contains atropine sulphate which is a parasympatholytic agent which causes mydriasis and paralysis of accommodation as well as mild vasoconstriction.
Indications
Apitropin is indicated whenever a mydriatic effect is required for ocular refraction examinations. Apitropin is also indicated in treating inflammations of the anterior segment (keratitis or corneal ulcers associated with irritation of the iris) and after extracapsular or intracapsular extraction of the lens.
Contraindications
Apitropin is contraindicated in the cases of primary glaucoma or a tendency to glaucoma or hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
Side effects
Prolonged use of atropine sulphate may produce local irritation and dryness of the throat.
Dosage
Usual dose of Apitropin when a maintained effect is required:
For adults: 2 drops three times daily
For children: 1 drop three times daily.
Usual dose of Apitropin for refraction examination 1-2 drops are instilled in each eye two times daily onr to three days prior to examination.
Storage
Store between 15-25°c, discard the bottle one month after opening.
