Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondroitin Sulfate tablets

As nutritional supplement, combination of glucosamine and chondroitin is used in people with osteoarthritis and other inflammatory joint disorders. Also aids in maintaining healthy joints.


Glucosamine is a sugar protein that is believed to help develop and renew cartilage (the hard connective tissue mainly located on bones near joints in the body), and keeps it lubricated for better joint movement and flexibility.

Chondroitin is a naturally occurring substance formed of sugar chains. Chondroitin is believed to help the body maintain fluid and flexibility in the joints.

When you must not to use

If you have bleeding or blood clotting disorder such as haemophilia, if you are allergic to shellfish or glucosamine or chondroitin or all; if you are on a low salt diet.

Before you start to use

Tell your doctor, if you are allergic to any medicines or substances, about any other medical conditions, if you are pregnant or breast feeding or planning to become pregnant.

Taking other medicines

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Dosage and administration

Your doctor or pharmacist will tell you how many tablets you will need to take each day and how long to take them for. The usual dose is one tablet three times a day with meals. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure of the correct dose for you.

Try to take it at the same time each day to avoid missing any doses.

Continue taking your medicine for as long as your doctor tells you. It is important to keep taking your medicine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking CARTILAMINE EXTRA without talking to your doctor.

Do not take any new medicines with CARTILAMINE EXTRA unless your doctor has told you. Do not take your medicines to treat any other complaints unless your doctor or pharmacist tells you.

If you forget to use

Take it as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Then go on as before. Never double up on the next dose to make up for the one missed.

If you use too much (overdose)

If you have accidentally taken more than the prescribed dose, contact your nearest casualty department or tell your doctor or pharmacist at once.

Things to be careful of

Glucosamine may affect blood sugar so monitoring of blood sugar level is advised for patients with diabetes. The influence of glucosamine and chondroitin on ability to drive a motor vehicle or operate machinery has not been studied. CARTILAMINE EXTRA is not expected to affect ability to drive a motor vehicle or operate machinery. But if you experience headache, somnolence, tiredness, dizziness or visual disturbance while taking CARTILAMINE EXTRA, you should not drive or operate machinery.

Side effects

All medicines may have some unwanted side effects. Sometimes they are serious, but most of the time they are not. Your doctor has weighed the risks of using this medicine against the benefits he/she expects it will have for you. Tell your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if you do not feel well while you are taking CARTILAMINE EXTRA.


Following is a list of possible side effects. Do not be alarmed by this list. You may not experience any ot them.

Hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, mild nausea, upset stomach, heartburn and diarrhea.

Other side effects not listed above may occur in some patients. Consult your doctor/ pharmacist for further information.

Store below 30°c in a dry place, keep away from direct sunlight.
