Jaundice (JAWN-diss)
A condition characterized by a yellow color in the whites of the eyes and in light skin; caused by an elevated blood level of bilirubin. May be hepatic, prehepatic, or posthepatic in origin.
Jejunum (je-JOO-num)
The second portion of the small intestine, about 8 feet long.
Joint capsule (JOYNT KAP-suhl)
The fibrous connective tissue sheath that encloses a joint.
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Juvenile Idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common chronic rheumatologic disease in children and is one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood. JIA should be considered with arthritis lasting for at least 6 weeks in children aged < 16 years. All the other causes should be excluded including infections, malignancies and hematological conditions like sickle cell anemia.
